Cave of Tiberius

If you are in Sperlonga, you cannot miss a visit to the Villa and Grotta di Tiberio. Facing the sea, they are very easy to reach: just follow the signs on the road connecting Sperlonga to Gaeta for about a kilometre.

The Grotta di Tiberio (Tiberius’ Cave) is a large natural rocky cavity opening onto the Tyrrhenian Sea: near the Grotta there is also a small stretch of extremely charming beach.

Historic Centre

A tangle of white alleys, flowering arches and breathtaking views of the sea: the historic centre of Sperlonga is a jewel to be experienced slowly. A few steps from the Hotel Aurora, a world suspended in time opens up, where every corner tells a story.

Strolling through its narrow streets means getting lost among artisan workshops, secret terraces and ancient stairways that lead to the infinite blue of the sea. It is the authentic heart of the village, where the past meets the beauty of the present.

Truglia Tower

A characteristic feature of this location are the four towers.

Built in the Middle Ages to defend against the Saracens, today they are one of the most visited tourist destinations. The Central Tower and the Nibbio Tower are nowadays incorporated between the houses of the village, giving it its perched and winding appearance. The Truglia Tower, on the other hand, has been restored several times, and also housed the headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza for several decades, which is why it remains in good condition.

Sperlonga’s small and picturesque churches, mostly located in the ancient heart of the town, are also worth a visit.

Ancient Via Flacca

A few minutes from the Hotel Aurora, one of the most evocative roads in the Mediterranean winds its way: the Via Flacca, an ancient Roman road that runs along the sea, offering spectacular views and traces of a glorious past.

To walk along it is to immerse oneself in wild nature and the silence of the cliffs, among hidden caves, Saracen towers and secret coves washed by a crystal-clear sea. This is also where the famous Villa of the Emperor Tiberius stands, with its grotto overlooking the sea and the Archaeological Museum housing statues and artefacts of extraordinary beauty.

A timeless place, where history blends with the landscape and every bend in the road offers postcard-perfect emotions.

Big Bench No. 265

An unusual vantage point:

the Sperlonga Big Bench is a giant bench immersed in nature, from which to admire an incredible view of the sea and the old town. A perfect place for a suggestive stop, a souvenir photo and to feel, at least for a moment, small in front of the beauty of Sperlonga.

Lakes

Among the lesser known but more fascinating wonders of the Sperlonga area are two stretches of water that tell ancient stories and guard a silent beauty: Lago Lungo and Lago di San Puoto.

Surrounded by reeds and unspoilt nature, these lakes of coastal origin offer evocative landscapes and an atmosphere suspended in time. Ideal places for regenerating walks, bike rides, birdwatching or simply to slow the pace and breathe deeply.

Lake San Puoto, in particular, is also home to a water ski school, perfect for those seeking sport and excitement in contact with water.

A few minutes from the hotel, an escape into the most authentic nature awaits you. Among golden reflections, clear skies and silences to listen to.
